I
got to know Alonnisos. I’ve been captivated by the
beauty of the island. Alonnisos belongs to the marine
national park “Northern Sporades” which is
a unique example of ecological thinking in Greece. |

The
sea here belongs to the cleanest waters of the Mediterranean
and is a paradise for dolphins, seals and birds. For years
the Greek government and several international environmental
organisations are trying to protect population of the
monk seal there and to sensitise the local population
to a clean environment and this with great success.. |

Alonnisos – nature-paradise .... |
|
|
For years one
is making an effort not to endanger the population of
the monk seal (monachus monachus), which is living in
the northern waters; the fishers and the remaining local
population are also given an understanding of the advantages
of ecological thinking.
The botanical diversity is said to have already impressed
Hippokrates. On the barren ground of the island, more
than 6.000 different types of medicinal plants are growing,
which inspire the wanderers in each season. Alonnisos
is a green island with crystal clear water. This nature
paradise offers luxuriant stone pine forests in which
many seldom birds nest, lonely swimming bays, little havens,
tiny chapels and grots.
